Midget AA Bruins dominate defensively to win three straight

The Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins won three times in three days, and surrendered just one goal in the process. The first victory was a 4-0 shutout over the Notre Dame Hounds on Jan. 10 in Wilcox.

The first victory was a 4-0 shutout over the Notre Dame Hounds on Jan. 10 in Wilcox. Kieran Stewart scored for Estevan in the first period, Tanner Stovin tallied 25 seconds into the second to double the lead, and Chase Gedak and Trey Stovin had goals in the third to round out the scoring.

Jackson Miller stopped 18 shots in the victory.

The following day, the Bruins blanked the Yorkton Terriers 3-0. All three goals came in the second period. Trey Stovin notched what proved to be the winner 31 seconds into the middle frame, and then Adrien Riddell and Kieran Stewart scored to finish the scoring.

Logan Nagel made 32 saves in the win.

Their final victory was a 2-1 win over the Yorkton Terriers on Jan. 12. The Terriers scored on a power play late in the first to end the midget Bruins shutout streak, but then Kieran Stewart and Tayce Miller scored in the second.

The Bruins then held off the Terriers in the third.

Miller stopped 44 shots for the Bruins, who cemented their place atop the league with the win.

The Bruins record stands at 25-1-1-1, and their 52 points are 11 better than anyone else in the league.

They’ll be back on the ice Jan. 15 when they visit the Notre Dame Argos in Wilcox. Then they will host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Jan. 18 at Affinity Place, starting at 4 p.m.

The Estevan TS&M bantam AA Bruins were also on the road for the weekend.

Their first game was a 9-4 loss to the Battlefords Barons on Jan. 11. Jordan Marcotte scored in the first and Macade Ochitwa tallied in the second to give Estevan a 2-1 lead at one point, but Battlefords rallied and pulled away. Marcotte would add his second of the game, and Kersey Hollingshead also scored.

Keagan Carley stopped 16 shots during the game.

The following day was a back and forth contest that the Bruins lost 4-3 to the West Central Wheat Kings. Declyn Henderson had two goals for Estevan and Carter Onrait added the other goal.

Ty Fehrenbach made 21 saves in the loss.

The bantams will host the Warman Wildcats on Jan. 19 at 2:30 p.m.

The Estevan Meter peewee AA Bruins suffered a pair of defeats against the Yorkton Terriers on the weekend, 8-1 on Jan. 11 and 5-1 on Jan. 12.

Draeton Morrissette had the Bruins lone goal in the first game, a marker that came in the second period.

Chase Borreson was in goal.

In the second game, Conrad Hase scored in the second for the Bruins lone goal.

Amy Swayze was in goal for that game.

The peewee Bruins will be back on the ice this weekend when they host the Melville Millionaires on Jan. 18 at 1:15 p.m. and Jan. 19 at noon. Both games will be played at Affinity Place.
