Midget AA Bruins finish with three wins

The Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins wrapped up their regular season by winning three straight road games. Estevan routed the Regina Vics 7-1 on Feb. 8 and the Moose Jaw Warriors 12-0 on Feb. 9, and then defeated the Regina Rangers 3-1 on Feb.

Estevan routed the Regina Vics 7-1 on Feb. 8 and the Moose Jaw Warriors 12-0 on Feb. 9, and then defeated the Regina Rangers 3-1 on Feb. 10 to close out the season.

Tanner Stovin and Peyton Stewart scored 26 seconds apart in the opening six minutes of the game against the Vics, and after the Vics scored midway through the first, Trey Stovin and Triston Sorenson scored 47 seconds apart late in the period for a 4-1 advantage.

Tanner Stovin and Kieran Stewart tallied in the second and Tayce Miller added a goal in the third for Estevan.

Cale Adams and Sorenson scored in the first period versus Moose Jaw, and Tanner Stovin scored twice in the second to give Estevan a 4-0 lead through two periods.

The floodgates opened in the third, Kelby Widenmaier scored three straight goals less than four minutes apart, and Tanner Stovin scored twice. Trey Stovin, Sorenson and Joey Meredith also scored.

Estevan trailed the Rangers 1-0 after the first period, but Tanner Stovin scored in the second to tie the game. Kyle Gervais notched what proved to be the game-winning goal 1:42 into the third, and Tanner Stovin added his second of the game less than five minutes later.

Morgan Wanner was in goal against the Vics and the Rangers, while Zane Winter was the goalie against the Warriors.

The midget AAs (23-10-1-2) finished the season with 49 points. They will finish no worse than fourth in the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League’s South Division.

The Estevan TS&M bantam AA Bruins extended their winning streak to five games Feb. 9 with a 4-3 win over the Regina Aces. Goal scorers for the Bruins were Mason Kukura with two, Alec Waldegger and James Mann.

Mann’s goal with 87 seconds to play in the second was the game-winner.

The Bruins now sit in a tie for second place in the South Division with the Regina Aces with a 16-9-2 record.

Up next will be the Sask. First top 80 showcase in Saskatoon from Feb. 15-17. Kaden Chrest and Mann will be participating.

The Estevan Meter peewee AA reached the B final of a tournament in Brandon, Man.,, this past weekend.

Estevan opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over the Tisdale Trojans, but then lost 3-2 to the Saskatoon Thunder. In a tweet, the peewee Bruins noted the Thunder scored the winner on a two-man advantage with 21 seconds to play.

Thee peewees beat the Lumsden Lions 6-4 in the B semi-final, but then lost 8-6 to the Humboldt Broncos in the B final.

Estevan (10-12-2-3) will play the Weyburn Red Wings in a best-of-three series that has to be finished by Feb. 24.

The Estevan Western Star Signature Hotel atom Tier 1 Bruins (4-14-4) had two dominant victories over the Weyburn Wings, beating their Highway 39 rivals 7-3 on Feb. 9 and 12-5 the following day.

The first game was actually tied 1-1 after two periods, with Owen Pushie scoring for Estevan. Carson Deichert and Boston Tait scored twice for the Bruins in the third, and Deegan LeMoine also scored.

In the Feb. 10 game, Estevan once again pulled away with a dominant third period. The Bruins led 2-0 after the first period and 5-3 after two, and after the Wings pulled to within one with 10 minutes to play in the third, Estevan scored six times in the final 10 minutes.

LeMoine had five goals in the victory. Tristan Brownridge, Kieran Farden, Cameron Milbrandt, Deichert, Pushie, Riley Gigian and Cruz Symons had the other goals.

Kris Phillips was in goal for both games.

The atom Bruins will close out the regular season on Feb. 24 when they visit the Melville Millionaires.
