Midget AA Bruins open season with five straight wins

The Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins continued their early season success by winning three times in league play over a five-day span. The Bruins defeated the Lumsden-Bethune Lions 7-3 on Oct. 19 and the Regina Vics 5-1 the following day.

The Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins continued their early season success by winning three times in league play over a five-day span.

The Bruins defeated the Lumsden-Bethune Lions 7-3 on Oct. 19 and the Regina Vics 5-1 the following day.

Five different players scored for the Bruins in the first period versus the Lions, as Chase Gedak, Tanner Stovin, Cale Adams, Mason Fichter and Adrien Riddell found the back of the net. Gedak and Stovin’s goals came in the opening minute of the game.

Kaden Chrest scored in the second, and Kieran Stewart tallied in the third.

Logan Nagel made 19 saves for the win.

The Vics opened the scoring midway through the first period on Oct. 20, but Tayce Miller and Trey Stovin scored before the period was out for a 2-1 Estevan advantage.

Tanner Stovin and Chrest scored in the second, and Stewart scored in the third.

Jackson Miller made 32 saves for the win.

Estevan then defeated the Weyburn Wings 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday night in Weyburn.

The first two periods were scoreless, but Weyburn scored early in the third for a 1-0 lead.

Adams tied the game with about 12 minutes to play in the third.

Kolby Kaban notched the winning goal with 4:15 to play in overtime.  

Logan Nagel stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced.

The Estevan TS&M bantam AA Bruins travelled to the prestigious Graham Tuer Bantam Challenge from Oct. 17-19 and were defeated in all of their games.

Estevan dropped the first game of the tournament 9-2 to the Saskatoon Bandits. Jordan Marcotte and Carter Onrait were the goal scorers.

Their next game was a 14-1 loss to the Lloydminster Bobcats. Ryker Mathison had the lone Estevan goal.

In the third game, the Bruins lost 8-1 to the Pembina Valley Hawks. The game was scoreless after the first period before the Hawks pulled away.

Declyn Henderson scored the lone Estevan goal.

The final game was a 9-2 loss to the Warman Wildcats. Landon Marcotte and Jordan Marcotte had the goals.

Keagan Carley was in goal against Saskatoon and Pembina Valley. Ty Fehrenbach was the goalie versus Lloydminster and Warman.

The Estevan Western Star Signature Hotel atom Tier 1 Bruins opened their season with a 6-4 win over the Yorkton Terriers Oct. 19 at Affinity Place.

Cameron Milbrandt scored twice in the victory, while Merek Wilhelm, Boston Tait, Jaxson Orsted and Riley Gigan also scored. Gigan’s goal was the game-winner. The Bruins had leads of 2-1 after the first period and 5-1 through two periods.

Easton Pushie was in goal for the game.

The following day, the Bruins lost 9-2 to the Terriers. Broden Henry scored in the first period for Estevan to tie the game at 1-1 at that point, but the Terriers scored four times in the first and four more in the second to lead 8-1 after two periods.

Logan Kolenz had the other Estevan goal.

Addison Wanner was in goal for the game.
