Midget AA Bruins win final home game

The Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins won their final home game in the Saskatchewan Minor AA Hockey League’s regular season, defeating the Lumsden-Bethune Lions 7-2 on Sunday night.

Estevan trailed 2-1 after the first period, with Tanner Stovin’s goal sandwiched between two goals by the Lions. Stovin scored twice in the second, giving him three on the day, and Kieran Stewart also scored to give Estevan a 4-2 advantage after 40 minutes.

Stewart, Triston Sorenson and Cale Adams scored in the third; the goals by Sorenson and Adams came in the final minute.

Morgan Wanner was in goal for the win.

The Bruins other recent games were a 4-2 road win over the Regina Capitals on Jan. 19, and a 3-2 home ice loss to the Notre Dame Hounds the night before. The loss to Notre Dame ended Estevan’s 10-game unbeaten streak.

Peyton Stewart, Jared Fornwald, Stovin and Adams scored for Estevan against the Capitals.

Zane Winter was in goal.

Kyle Gervais and Kelby Widenmaier had Estevan’s goals against Notre Dame.

Wanner was in goal against the Hounds.

Estevan (19-9-0-2) sits second in the division. They will visit the Prairie Storm Extreme on Jan. 25 in White City and Jan. 26 in Balgonie, and the Lions on Jan. 27.

The Estevan Meter Peewee AA Bruins dropped their most recent league games, 9-5 to the Yorkton Terriers and 5-2 to the Weyburn Wings.

Estevan and Yorkton were tied at 3-3 after the first period, and 4-4 partway through the second, but then Yorkton pulled away.

Mathias Fornwald, Kade Phillips and Turner Jacobson scored in the first period, and Carter Onrait scored in the second.

Fornwald added his second of the game in the third.

Ty Fehrenbach was in goal for Estevan.

Fornwald scored in the first period against Weyburn, and Phillips tallied in the third. At that point the game was tied at twos. But the Wings tallied three times in the third period for the win.

Ryder Davidson was in goal for Estevan.

Estevan (9-11-2) will visit the Moose Jaw Warriors on Jan. 28 and Weyburn on Jan. 30.
