Midget AA Goldwings defeat Notre Dame

The South East Aaron Well Servicing midget AA Goldwings returned to the ice in Saskatchewan Female Hockey League action Monday night, and came away with a 2-1 victory over the host Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox.

The Goldwings were down 1-0 to the Hounds early in the first period, but then Khloe Bedore scored on a breakaway to tie the game, and Dalis Prawzdik scored on a power play to give the Goldwings a 2-1 lead in the second.

Kara Zelyck made 24 saves in the victory.

As for the South East TS&M midget A Goldwings, they dropped an 11-1 decision to the undefeated East Central Fillies Dec. 14 in Leroy.

Caydence Chapman had the Goldwings lone goal on a power play early in the second period to pull the Wings within three, but the Fillies took over from there.

Aalyiah McLean was in goal for the Wings.

The Goldwings were also slated to visit the Regina Renegades Dec. 18 in their final game before the Christmas break. (Results were not available at press time).

The South East Bert Baxter Transport bantam AA Goldwings were in Swift Current on the weekend for a pair of games against the Wildcats. The South East squad lost 5-2 on Dec. 14 and 3-0 the following day.

Jasmine Kohl opened the scoring for the Wings in the first game, and Paytin Copeland also scored.

J’Anne Colbow was in goal for the game.

Chloe Sorenson was the goalie for the second game against the Wildcats.

The Estevan bantam A Bearcats dropped two in league play to the Regina Cougar Rebels: 8-0 on Dec. 15 and 13-1 on Dec. 16.

Jordon Kerntopf had the Bearcats goal in the second game. Her marker came 7:18 into the first period and tied the game at ones. It was just a 2-1 game through the first period before Regina took over.

Emmey Rae was in goal for the first game and Rylie Scott was the goalie for the second.

The Estevan Power Dodge peewee A Bearcats split road games on the weekend, dropping a 6-5 decision to the Balcarres Barracudas on Dec. 14, but recovering to beat the Parkland Fire 5-2 the following day in Melville.

The Bearcats and the Barracudas traded goals for much of the game, until the Barracudas scored twice in nine seconds late in the third to lead 6-4. Estevan scored once more before the final buzzer.

Julia Durr scored twice for the Bearcats. Kaylin Wilhelm, Miley Lockerby and Brielle Farr also scored.

Wilhelm scored in the first and Durr and Teanna Trobert had goals in the second to give Estevan a 3-0 lead over the Fire. Lockerby and Kiah Shields scored the peewee Bearcats goals in the third.

Kiera Barker was in goal for both games.

The two local teams in the female league’s atom division both had busy weekends.

The Estevan Senchuk Bearcats picked up three of a possible six points in games versus Weyburn. They tied the Weyburn Goldwings 5-5 on Dec. 13 at Affinity Place, lost 4-1 to the Weyburn Blizzards on Dec. 14 at the Power Dodge Ice Centre and won 4-1 over the Blizzards the following day in Weyburn.

The Estevan Bearcats picked up two wins on the road. They blanked the Lake Diefenbaker Thunder 1-0 in Dinsmore on Dec. 14 and doubled up the Swift Current Thunder 4-2 later in the day. Then they tied the Thunder 3-3 the following day.
