The Estevan midget A Bruins opened their 2020 season by winning a tournament in Grand Forks, N.D.

The midget A Bruins are comprised of players from the midget house league teams in Estevan. They competed in this tournament, and will have one more tournament before beginning their quest for a provincial title in a second round series with Lampman.

Estevan opened the tournament with a 5-1 win over Manitoba Black. The Bruins were down 1-0 after the first period, but stormed back with four in the second, with Ethan Bill scoring twice, and Blayze Siebert and Josh Wilson also scoring in the middle frame. Jon Swirski rounded out the scoring for Estevan in the third.

Their next game was a 6-6 tie against Grand Forks, a game that Estevan led 3-0 after the first period and 5-2 through two. Bill, Swirski and Connor Terness scored for Estevan in the first period, and Bill added two more goals in the second. Brennan Stubel tallied for the Bruins in the third.

Their final round robin game was a 7-0 blanking of Fargo. Siebert scored twice and Kordell Duncan scored once in the first period to give the Bruins a three-goal advantage, and Siebert scored twice more in the second. Trey Wahl and Terness had the Estevan goals in the third.

Estevan and Grand Forks were tied following the round robin, not just for points, but for goals for and penalty minutes as well. A coin toss was needed to decide who would advance to the final against the Watford City Jr. Gold.

Estevan won the toss, and went on to beat Watford City 4-3. Watford City had three separate one-goal leads during the game, but goals by Bill with 11 minutes to play and Siebert with less than six minutes remaining keyed the comeback. Alec Waldegger and Stubel also scored.

Drew Fenwick was in goal for the first and the fourth games. Joshua Bittman was the goalie for the second and the third games.
