Battling one of the top teams in the province on their game, the Voltz did well out of the gate, ending the first period tied 2-2 on goals by Wagstaff and Hollingshead. The Mustangs took a 4-3 lead on the second, with Hollingshead scoring his second of the game. The third period saw the Mustangs take their game to another level, scoring four in the frame. The Voltz matched them for the most part, with Hollingshead and Wagstaff both completing hat tricks but were unable to win the game.

A five goal second period was too much for the Thrashers as the Voltz stomped off to an 8-2 lead after two frames. By the time the game was over, Wagstaff had four goals and an assist and Foord and Hollingshead each had two goals and an assist.
