Peewee Bearcats split games

The Estevan peewee Bearcats split their games in league play this past weekend.

The first game on Saturday was an 11-2 loss against the undefeated Southwest Cyclones. The game was tied at 2-2 after the first period, with Lauren Hassler and Kailyn Wilhelm scoring for Estevan.

But the Cyclones would score five times in the second period, and add four more in the opening 11 minutes of the third for the victory.

The following day was another lopsided game, but this time it was the Bearcats emerging with an 8-1 victory over the Balcarres Barracudas. The Bearcats led 2-1 after the first period, with Hassler getting both of Estevan’s goals.

Teanna Trobert, Wilhelm, Gracie LeBlanc and Hassler scored in the second period to give Estevan a four-goal margin, and then Hassler and LeBlanc scored 17 seconds apart in the third to round out the scoring.

Riley Scott was in goal for both games.

The Bearcats will round out the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule by hosting the Parkland Fire on Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. and Dec. 22 at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be at the Power Dodge Ice Centre.

The Estevan Senchuk atom Bearcats went into Weyburn on Saturday and left with a 4-1 victory over the Weyburn AtoMc Red.

The Bearcats gave up a goal early in the first period, and that 1-0 lead held up until the third period, when Estevan for four goals. Miley Lockerby and Gracyn Einarson scored 87 seconds apart early in the third period to give the Bearcats a 2-1 advantage, and then Einarson and Ella Fornwald scored in the final seven minutes to put the game away.

Kiera Barker was in goal.

The Senchuk Bearcats next game will be Dec. 16 at 4:15 p.m., when they will host the AtoMc Red at the Power Dodge Ice Centre.

The Estevan bantam Bearcats dropped a 6-4 decision to the Moose Jaw Mavericks on Dec. 6 in Moose Jaw. The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first period, with Kiley Davis scoring for the Bearcats.

Mckenna Walls tallied with less than seven minutes to play in the second to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead, but the Mavericks scored twice late in the second, and added two more early in the third for a 5-2 advantage.

Davis scored twice in the third, including her third of the game with less than three minutes to play to pull the Bearcats to within one, but the Mavericks would get one more to dash the comeback hopes.

Emmey Rae was in goal for Estevan.

The Bearcats will face the Wood River Ice Cats on Dec. 15, the Swift Current Colts on Dec. 16 and the Regina Shamrocks on Dec. 19 to finish the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule.

The Carlyle midget A Wildcats picked up one of four possible points in home games on the weekend against the Southwest Cyclones.

Kassidy Johnson’s goal with 2:46 to play in the third period proved to be the tying goal in a 2-2 tie on Dec. 8. Beth McCarthy’s goal midway through the second period was the Wildcats other goal.

The Cyclones jumped out to a quick 2-0 first period lead in the Dec. 9 game. Beth McCarthy’s goal midway through the second pulled the Wildcats to within one.

The Cyclones scored late in the third to restore the two-goal lead, and Anna McCarthy scored a short-handed goal for the Wildcats to round out the scoring.

Missy Biermann was in goal for the first game, and Kalli Adams was the goalie for the second.

The Wildcats next action is a home and home against the Prairie Storm Thunder, with a game Dec. 15 in Pilot Butte, and a game in Carlyle Dec. 16, starting at 3:30 p.m.
