Local youth football players had the opportunity to learn from one of the most accomplished receivers in the CFL during a clinic hosted by Penta Completions Estevan Minor Football Thursday afternoon at the Woodlawn Athletic Field.

Emmanuel Arceneaux of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who is a two-time CFL all-star, talked to the young athletes about proper footwork, agility, starting stance and other techniques that pertain to receivers and other offensive players.

Arceneaux, who is in his first year with the Riders, instructed camps like this many times when he was with the B.C. Lions.

“It’s fun to get out there and interact with the kids,” he said.

While he is known for his “Manny Show” on the field, when he’s with the kids, he becomes “Coach Manny.”
“Once they know how to switch that to ‘Hey, he’s coaching us,’ it makes us more fun because a lot of them be afraid to mess up, or they be so tensed up that they have to show me ‘I can do this,’ and they are nervous,” said Arceneaux.

Next week’s edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
