The Estevan Sharks water polo teams had another busy weekend, this time in Regina.

The mini Sharks program entered two teams in the tournament. The Hammerheads has a record of 4-0-1, while the Mako Sharks had a 2-1-2 mark. The many rookie players showed great stamina and effort throughout the day.

The atom boys entered two teams in the tournament. They welcomed two players from Saskatoon onto the teams. Both teams were undefeated in games against four Regina teams and one from Weyburn. In the final game of the day, the two Sharks teams faced each other. It was a very exciting game, ending in a 7-7 tie. Karson Mvula and Chayse Zohner showed leadership and strength throughout the tournament.

After close, hard-fought battles against the Regina Orcas, Stingrays and Barracudas, the atom girls Sharks team came home with a 0-4 record. Leading goal scorers were Mahlyn Bomberak, Lachlan O’Handley and Alexa Gettis.

The bantam girls team faced three strong Regina teams. Added to their roster was Rachel Tober and Mahlyn Bomberak from the atom Sharks. The team was guest-coached by Chad Knoll. They ended the tournament with a 2-2 record. Strong leadership and scoring came from Sadie Smith and Jordyn Tarnes.

Goaltenders Prysm Gooding, Lily Knoll and Tarnes made many crucial saves throughout the day.

The bantam boys hit the water with two teams. The Hammerhead Sharks brought up atom Sharks Bennett Walliser and Brooks Milford, and welcomed two players from Saskatoon. They started off the tournament with a hard fought game against the Regina Lions where they lost 7-2.

After a pep talk from their coach David Dzeryk, the boys bounced back in their second game with a huge 12-4 win against the Weyburn Hurricanes, with Lucas Dzeryk scoring 10 of the 12 goals that game.

Their third game was against the Regina Tigers where boys won 8-5. In the final game for the Hammerheads they once again met the Regina Lions but this time the Hammerheads continued with their winning momentum and they won 8-5 with the help of Jace Carritt and Brooks Milford holding back the Lions with some great defensive plays.

The Sand Sharks unfortunately did not see the same success this weekend. This team also welcomed two Saskatoon players as well as atom Shark Brody Turner. Despite the boys playing well defensively, they lost all four of their games in the tournament. Veteran player Dierks Milford helped lead the boys with the most goals for the Sand Sharks during the tournament.

The mini Sharks now have a break until January. Atoms play in Saskatoon Dec 7, while bantams return to Regina on Nov. 16-17.
