The Estevan peewee Tornados have had better starts and finishes to games but Sunday afternoon just wasn’t their time.

They lost 19-1 to the Regina Buffaloes after a much closer 8-6 loss in Baseball Regina Peewee AAA League action at Cactus Park.

“We just had a trouble with the pitching, just not throwing strikes,” said Tornados coach Ryan Siever.  “That was probably the biggest issue there. And then (there were) a couple others in the field. Other than that, we’ve now got some stuff to work on in the field.’

It jiust goes back to getting the pitchers to throw more strikes, he said.

“They know that,” Siever said. “They don’t go out there hoping to throw a ball or anything. It’s just kind of the way it goes sometimes.”

The team’s only run came from a solo home run by Mitch Himmelsback which brought them slightly closer.

The first game went much better for them.

“We just basically had a half inning let down on defence,” he said. “Otherwise, we played well against those guys. Pitching was really well and our hitting was really good. Just defensively, we kind of had one bad half inning where we gave them a couple of extra outs that we should have made.

“The boys played really well the rest of the game. I was really happy with how they played.”

The next action for the Tornados will be the Legasse Tournament today through Sunday at Lions Park in Regina and their next league game will be May 29 at home against Weyburn.
