Twelve teams entered atom tourney

Twelve teams entered the atom house tournament organized by the Estevan Minor Hockey Association from Jan. 18-20.

Twelve teams entered the atom house tournament organized by the Estevan Minor Hockey Association from Jan. 18-20.

The Minot Wolves doubled up the Regina Shamrocks 4-2 to win the gold medal game, while the Quad Town Rebels edged the Yorkton Terriers Orange in the third place game.

The Shamrocks beat the Terriers 7-0 in one semifinal, while the Wolves beat the Rebels 9-1 in the other.

Four Estevan teams were also entered: Warriors, the Kings, the Bruins and the female Bearcats. The Warriors played the Avonlea Thunder and the Midale Mustangs to 4-4 ties, and lost 10-0 to the Shamrocks.

The Kings beat the Bruins 8-7 in a shootout, but lost 5-0 to the Wolves and 8-7 to the Southey Marlins.

In addition to their loss to the Kings, the Bruins lost 12-3 to Quad Town and 3-1 to the Prairie Storm Cyclones.

The Bearcats, playing against boys teams, played the Yorkton Terriers to a 3-3 tie and lost 18-4 to the Shamrocks and 5-3 to the Midale Mustangs.

In addition to their games with the Warriors and the Bearcats, the Mustangs lost 502 to the Avonlea Thunder.
