Westmoreland Bruins celebrate huge win over Weyburn

The Westmoreland Bruins broke a lengthy slump with a huge 4-3 win over the visiting first place Weyburn Wings just a few days before Christmas. The Bruins (3-12-0) won 4-3 in South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League action Thursday at Affinity Place.

The Westmoreland Bruins broke a lengthy slump with a huge 4-3 win over the visiting first place Weyburn Wings just a few days before Christmas.

The Bruins (3-12-0) won 4-3 in South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League action Thursday at Affinity Place. The Wings (12-2-2) opened the scoring 8:22 into the first period by Estevan’s Emmett McCarthy responded from Tate Kasick and Ty Hoste at 17:02.

Kersey Hollingshead gave the Bruins the lead at 14:51 of the second from Rylan Hansen and Hoste and that lead held briefly until Ty Mason tied it for the Wings at 17:13 on the power play. Hoste grabbed the lead for the Bruins with 1:19 on the clock from Strahn Douglas.

The Bruins got their own power play at 7:09 of the third period thanks to Jordan Marcotte on assists from Hoste and Declyn Henderson. With the Bruins holding a 4-2 lead, Weyburn poured on the pressure late in the game and broke through with a goal from Cade Cole at 19:04.

Netminder Chloe Sorenson got the win in net for her first win of the season.

The Bruins are off of game action until Jan. 3, 2018 when they go to Weyburn to play the Wings.
