Some highly skilled young curlers were on the ice at the Power Dodge Curling Centre on Jan. 17 and 18 for the annual U15 and U18 bonspiels.

In the under-18 division, there was a tie for first place between Team Wilson and Team Willock. A last stone draw was needed to break the tie, and Team Wilson was the winner.

A total of six teams were entered in the under-18 bonspiel, and each team played three times. The Wilson and Willock rinks each finished 3-0.

Team Wilson included skip Maddi Wilson, third Meegan Hood, second Sierra Murray, lead Genna Pryce and alterntate Makenzie Kitz.

Team Willock, meanwhile, was comprised of skip Hayden Willock, third Kienna Freitag, second Ryder Farnsworth and lead Lindsay Johnson.

As for the Under-15 bonspiel, there were two pools of four teams each. In the younger age group, Team Campbell of the Estevan Curling Club went 3-0. Kody Campbel was the skip, Kade Skuce was the third, Jaxon Cairns was the second and Tristin Boles was the lead.

As for the older kids, the ECS junior team went 3-0. Team members were Braydon Ludtke, third Olvia Wallewein, second Barrett Fleck and lead Rachel St. Onge.

“The curling was really good,” said Estevan Curling Club manager Pauline Ziehl Grimsrud, who was particularly impressed with the talent in the under-15 age group.

“Any game I wasn’t convinced who would win and who would lose. It was pretty even competition.”

The curlers also participated in a clinic Jan. 17 led by Brent Gedak and Jason Ackerman of the Gedak rink that has qualified for the SaskTel Tankard men’s provincial curling championship.

“They helped the kids with a lot of technical stuff,” said Ziehl Grimsrud. “They were excellent with the children.”
