EAST CENTRAL — The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) is hoping for a Sept. 25 start, subject to Saskatchewan Health Authority approval.

Bill Chow, the SJHL’s president, said that until they get the approval if they can have a season, they aren’t in a position to speculate what it would look like.

“Everything is subject to the health authority approving anything, so until they approve something there’s no sense in even thinking about what it could be, or should be or want to be because it’s subject to their approval,” Chow said. “It would be an exercise in futility.”

There is no timetable when the SJHL expects to hear back from the health authority.

“At the end of the day, hockey is important to all of us, but I’m sure there are lots of other important things going on right now that [Saskatchewan] Health is dealing with, so I’m sure they’ll get back to us as quickly as possible.”

Chow said that the SJHL’s current goal is to play a full season, even if that means it has to be extended into the following spring.

“I could wish for a lot of things but there’s no sense talking about them if Sask. Health doesn’t approve them. Until we get to that point in time that’s where we’re at.”
