Local archers got a 3D challenge last weekend at the range just south of the city.

The Estevan Archery Club hosted a 3D archery event, which provides a bit of a different target than a typical sheet of paper.

“What we do with a 3D shoot is we stick out (models of) animals and there’s no hard distance so first of all you’ve got to guess your distance,” said Blaine Stropko of the Estevan Archery Club. “Then you’ve got to figure out what your kill zone is and there’s marks on each animal where you score on.”

Turnout for the two days was 42 on Saturday and 22 on Sunday.

“We had people out of Regina, Goodwater, Weyburn, Oxbow,” Stropko said. “We didn’t have anybody out of Manitoba this year but we have had them in the past.”

The busier day was Saturday with many on the course. The compound fixed pins division was won by Terrie Swanson with 356 points and the compound unlimited division was taken by Chris Hoffman with a score of 378 points. Theron Mattei was the top men’s over 50 participant with 346 points, and Austin Petterson was the top traditional bowman with a score of 46 points.
