Big Six playoffs begin

The Big Six Hockey League’s playoffs are underway, and two teams have already been eliminated in the first round survivor series. The post-season began with a pair of two-game, total-goal series.

The post-season began with a pair of two-game, total-goal series. The Wawota Flyers defeated the Arcola-Kisbey Combines 19-10 in one of the series, with Wawota taking the first game 11-5 in Arcola on Feb. 8, and the Flyers winning the second 8-5 two nights later in Wawota.

Meanwhile, the Kipling-Windthorst Oil Capitals defeated the Oxbow Huskies 10-8 in the other series. Kipling-Windthorst took Game 1 5-3 in Kipling on Feb. 6, and the two teams played to a 5-5 tie two nights later in Oxbow.

Kipling-Windthorst is in their first season in the league. 

The quarter-finals began on Feb. 12. The Bienfait Coalers needed double overtime to defeat the Carlyle Cougars in Game 1 of their series. Keegan Malaryk scored 36 seconds into the second extra frame to lift his team to victory. Dylan Herzberg scored twice and Levi Kress also scored for the Coalers.

Jackson Walliser was in goal for the victory.

Brett Turgeon, Cooper Fox and Billy Greenwood had the Carlyle goals. Landon Audet was the Cougars goalie.

The Carnduff Red Devils blanked the Midale Mustangs 6-0 in the other. Trevor Geiger had two goals, while Blake McMillen added a goal and three assists. Cody Moore, Mark Moriarty and Sheldon Thompson were the other goal scorers.

Cody Dumaine recorded the shutout for Carnduff, while Derek Tendler was the Mustangs goalie.

 

 

 

Quarter-final series will be best-of-five matchups.

The remaining scheduled games for Yellow Grass and Kipling-Windthorst are Feb. 15 in Kipling, Feb. 17 in Yellow Grass, Feb. 20 in Kipling and Feb. 24 in Yellow Grass. The last two games will only be played if they are necessary.

The only announced future date for the Redvers-Wawota series was Feb. 15 in Redvers.

In the Carnduff-Midale series, Game 2 is scheduled for Feb. 15 in Midale, and Game 3 is Feb. 19 in Carnduff. The other dates have not been determined. \

All dates are set for Carlyle and Bienfait. Game 2 will be Feb. 15 in Bienfait, Game 3 will be Feb. 19 in Carlyle, and Games 4 and 5, if necessary, would be Feb. 22 in Bienfait and Feb. 24 in Carlyle.
