Big Six regular season nears completion

The Big Six Hockey League is entering the final weekend of the regular season, and there is still a lot to be determined. The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings have wrapped up top spot in the league with a 14-3 record.

The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings have wrapped up top spot in the league with a 14-3 record. In their last game, the Wheat Kings defeated the Carlyle Cougars 8-2 on Jan. 24.

The Redvers Rockets have moved into a tie for second with the Carnduff Red Devils. The Rockets (12-4) defeated the Wawota Flyers 10-3 on Jan. 30 in their first game in eight days.

The Carnduff Red Devils (12-5) beat the Flyers 7-3 on Jan. 26, and knocked off the Bienfait Coalers 8-5 three nights later.

The Carlyle Cougars sit fourth at 10-5-2. After the setback against Yellow Grass, they responded with a 6-4 win over the Midale Mustangs on Feb. 2.

The Bienfait Coalers and the Mustangs were tied for fifth at 9-7, heading into their showdown on Jan. 31. (Results were not available at press time). Bienfait won a couple of games recently, defeating the Arcola-Kisbey Combines 11-2 on Jan. 25, and the Flyers 9-1 on Jan. 27.

Wawota (7-8) has been struggling entering the playoffs, with the losses to Carnduff, Bienfait and Redvers.

The Oxbow Huskies (5-11-1) won their most recent game, an 8-2 decision over Arcola-Kisbey.

Kipling-Windthorst (4-12) is ninth, and Arcola-Kisbey (0-14-1) sits 10th.

The regular season will wrap up with four games on Feb. 1 and three games the following night. Games on Feb. 1 are Yellow Grass at Kipling-Windthorst, Arcola-Kisbey at Carnduff, Wawota at Carlyle, and Midale at Redvers.

The games on Feb. 2 are Kipling-Windthorst at Bienfait, Oxbow at Wawota, and Redvers at Arcola-Kisbey.

All games start at 8 p.m., except for Kipling-Windthorst at Bienfait, which starts at 7 p.m.
