Carnduff Red Devils reach provincial final

The Carnduff Red Devils will be competing in a pair of finals this year.

The Carnduff Red Devils will be competing in a pair of finals this year.

Carnduff is already in the Big Six Hockey League’s final; they trail the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings 1-0 in the best-of-five series after dropping a 6-4 decision in Game 1 on Wednesday night.

But now the Red Devils have reached the provincial Senior B final, after blanking the host Wynyard Monarchs 6-0 Saturday night in Game 2 of the best-of-three series.

Carnduff won the series 2-0.

The Red Devils set the tone early, as Brandon Trask, Nico Anderson and Jake McMillen scored less than three minutes apart in the first period to give Carnduff a 3-0 lead.

Anderson added his second of the game midway through the second to add to the advantage, and Matt Audette and Ryan Curzon rounded out the scoring with goals in the third.

Carnduff will play either the Wilkie Outlaws or the Outlook Ice Hawks in a best-of-three provincial final. Game 1 and Game 3, if necessary, would be in the north while Game 2 will be in Carnduff.

As for the Big 6 final, it will resume Tuesday night with Game 2 in Carnduff. Game 3 is slated for Thursday in Yellow Grass.
