The 16-and-under (16U) Team Sask. girls water polo team went undefeated this past weekend in Surrey, B.C.

Alexandra Andrist, Josephine Andrist, Gabby Jocelyn, Mikayla Hack and Breanna Sinclair from the Estevan Sharks were part of Team Sask., who posted a perfect 5-0 record.

They opened Friday with a 9-8 win over the Edmonton Tsunami and a 21-12 victory over the Calgary Renegades Gold.

Saturday’s victories were 16-14 over the Fraser Valley entry, and 14-13 over the Calgary Renegades Black.

The 16U Team Sask boys came home with a 3-2 record. Ethan Elliott, Cameron Gillingham and Lyndon Sauder from the Estevan Sharks were part of Team Sask.

Saskatchewan opened the tournament with a 15-11 loss to Fraser Valley on Thursday. Then they responded with two victories on Friday, 11-5 over the Calgary Wild and 22-13 over Team Manitoba.

Their lone game on Saturday was a 14-12 victory over the Edmonton Mako Tsunami.

They closed the tournament with a 15-3 loss to the West Coast Warriors.

This concludes the regular season for 16U National Championship League, with the next action being in Calgary for the Western finals in April. All teams will once again face off based on divisional standings, and try to earn a top two placing to move on to nationals.

Also, 14 players from the Sharks atom teams travelled to Brandon, Man., as part of an ambassadorship program. Along with the Winnipeg program, the Sharks are helping Brandon establish a club. It was a single day, just-for-fun tournament.

This is the first time these athletes have participated in anything like it, as they are used to high-level, competitive play.

There are plans for the Sharks to host the new Brandon team in the fall.
