Harbourne Cup playoff openers set

The regular season is over and the Saskota Baseball League is holding the Harbourne Cup tournament once again this weekend.

The regular season is over and the Saskota Baseball League is holding the Harbourne Cup tournament once again this weekend.

The Oxbow Chiefs won the regular season crown with a 17-1 record but one misstep this weekend can give any other team a chance to win the Saskota League. The Estevan Tap House Wolves were 15-2-1 during the regular season, good enough for second place, and the Carlyle Cardinals were 12-5-1, good enough for third place.

The tournament starts Friday night at four different locations with the 10-team league’s top eight finishers and then moves to the Kenosee for the final two days. Teams are in two pools of four teams each.

Friday’s games include the Southeast Fireballs at Oxbow, the Kenosee Cubs at the Tap House Wolves, the Carnduff Astros at the Carlyle Cardinals and the Redvers A’s at the Arcola Threshers.

After each team has played three times, the top two teams in each division will play in semifinals at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Kenosee.

The tournament final is scheduled for Sunday at 6 p.m.

Regardless of who wins at this tournament, Estevan will host the Senior AA Tier II Baseball Saskatchewan provincial playoff Aug. 10-12, and the tournament will also include Oxbow and Carlyle, and three other teams not in the Saskota league.

Carnduff is hosting the Senior AA Tier 4 provincials the same weekend as Estevan, which includes Redvers and four other teams. Windthorst is hosting the Senior AA Tier 5 provincials, with Kenosee coming to town.
