Big The second weekend of the Big Six Hockey League season saw five games played over three days.
The Redvers Rockets defeated the Midale Mustangs 6-1 in Midale Friday night. Kevin Mann, Kenton Miller and Brady Fidierchuk scored in the first period for Redvers, while Logan Martinson tallied for the Mustangs in the opening frame.
Miller scored in the second period, and then Kelsey Kenler and Brady Gaudet scored in the third.
Thomas Bauche was in goal for the Rockets, while Talen King was the Midale goalie.
The other game on Friday saw the Carlyle Cougars shell the Arcola-Kisbey Combines 12-4. Carlyle scored six times in the first and five more in the second.
Cooper Fox, Dakota Rose, Korby Boutin, Ben Johnstone, Mitchell Morrison and Devon McGonigal scored in the first, and Rose added two more in the second. Brett Turgeon, Mark Shaw and Jesse Matthewson also tallied in the middle frame. Boutin scored in the third.
Brayden Rowley, Duane Hislop, Jared Taylor and Hayden Cutler had Arcola-Kisbey’s goals.
Keegan Mitchell was the Combines goalie. Brendan Glasser was in goal for Carlyle.
The Combines then lost 7-1 to the Wawota Flyers on Saturday night. Derek Fleck had the lone goal for the Combines.
Taylor Ernst had a hat trick for the Flyers. Brady Dinwoodie, Ryan Taylor, Mykel Biermann and Trevor Stewart had the other goals.
Mitchell was in goal for the Combines for the second consecutive night. Kye Steinke was the Flyers goalie.
Saturday’s other game saw the Carnduff Red Devils defeat Redvers 5-2. Niko Anderson scored twice for Carnduff. Sean Mulcay, Sheldon Thompson and Brandon Trask were the other goal scorers.
Cody Dumaine was the Red Devils goalie.
Mann and Travis Poirier were the Redvers goal scorers. Cody Matthewson was in goal.
The reigning champions, the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings, began their season with a 5-1 victory over the Midale Mustangs. Garret Sherlock had Midale’s lone goal. King was the Mustang’s goalie.
Mike Orsted, Burke Sohndone, Rhett Labbie, Jesse Watson and Cole Rooney scored for the Wheat Kings.
Tanner Erickson was the Wheat Kings goalie.
Three games are slated for each of Friday and Saturday night this coming weekend. The Bienfait Coalers will visit Yellow Grass, Redvers is at Carlyle and Carnduff is at Wawota on Nov. 15.
Games for Nov. 16 include Carlyle at Carnduff, Wawota at the Kipling-Windthorst Oil Kings and Midale at Arcola-Kisbey.
All games start at 8 p.m.
