Southeast golfers finish in top 10 at provincials

Golfers from southeast Saskatchewan had strong showings at provincial tournaments that were held at Deer Park Municipal Golf Course in Yorkton from Tuesday to Thursday.

In the senior men’s competition, Paul Grimes of Kenosee Lake finished fourth with a three-round total of 15-over-par 231. He was the first round leader after shooting a 73, but was eventually overtaken by Weyburn’s Rick Hallberg for top spot.

Grimes shot back to back 79s in the second and third rounds.

Hallberg went on to win the tournament with a five-over-par total of 221.

Estevan’s Michael Ross finished seventh with a three-round total of 234, which was 18-over. He opened the tournament with a 77, and then had rounds of 79 and 78.

Ross was also entered in the mid-masters event. His score from the senior men’s carried over, and he was also seventh.

Another Estevan golfer, Patrick Murphy, was tied for 17th with a 244 total. He shot an 80 in the first round, and had 82s in the second and third rounds.
