Standings still tight in Big Six Hockey League

Only three weeks into the Big Six Hockey League season and all teams have at least one loss on their record. There is only three points separating the top five teams in the league.

The Carnduff Red Devils lost their first game of the season 3-2 Saturday when they travelled to Carlyle and allowed a goal to the PureChem Cougars with 16 seconds left in a 2-2 tie.  Blake McMillen scored both Carnduff goals, while Ben Johnstone scored twice, including the game winner. Clayton Geiger had three assists and Nathan Deck scored Carlyle’s other goal.

The Midale Mustangs went out to Yellow Grass Saturday and lost 8-1 to the Wheat Kings. Connor Burk scored the Mustangs’ only goal, unassisted in the third period,

A third period rally helped the Oxbow Huskies defeated the Kipling/Windthorst Oil Kings 7-5 Saturday. Taysen Holt – who had two goals and three assists in the game – Derek Cooney and Steven Henderson each scored in the third period to help the Huskies. Cooney had two goals in the game, and Matt Bill and Klae Baeda scored the Huskies’ other goals. 

Sunday’s only game saw visiting Yellow Grass defeat the Arcola/Kisbey Combines 9-1. Leevi Runge scored the Combines’ only goal of the game.

Tuesday had only one game on the slate as the Redvers Rockets went to Carlyle. The Cougars won 6-2 on a pair of goals each from Johnstone and Deck. Brent McLean and Geiger had the other goals. Kenton Miller scored both of Redvers’ goals.

There are four games in the Big Six this weekend, including the Wawota travelling to Kipling/Windsthorst Friday, Yellow Grass at Wawota and the Bienfait Coalers at Redvers Saturday and Oxbow at Yellow Grass Sunday.
