The TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course has announced that it will be opening for the 2019 golf season on April 18, with the first tee-off time at 11 a.m.
“Obviously, we’re very excited about it. It’s been a long, cold winter, so people are anxious to get out there, and we’re anxious to get going,” said Amanda Minchin, the golf course’s head pro and general manager.
The golf course handled the winter well, she said, even though there wasn’t a lot of snow coverage before Christmas, and there was a six-week cold snap from late January to early March in which several extreme cold warnings were issued.
The bulk of the snow has been gone for a few weeks, so golfers have been excited for the start of the season. But the temperatures haven’t always co-operated, and the overnight lows have still been cold.
“I think in February I had people asking me when I thought we were going to be opening,” said Minchin.
Woodlawn’s driving range has been open since March 29, and they have conducted some lessons. The clubhouse will open on Monday.
This week’s edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
