Vilcu's Karate Club members compete at provincials

Members of Vilcu’s Karate Club travelled to Regina on June 22 to compete in a Saskatchewan Martial Arts Association provincial tournament.

Members of Vilcu’s Karate Club travelled to Regina on June 22 to compete in a Saskatchewan Martial Arts Association provincial tournament.

Competitors had to place in three different tournaments throughout the 2018-19 season to qualify for provincials. Divisions were based on belt rank, age and gender.

About 200 people attended provincials this year.

The members of the local club who went to provincials were:

Sensei Troy McClelland won a provincial championship among black belts in weapon sparring and was a runner up in point sparring.

Harry Orhn won a provincial championship in black belt forms.

Sifu Carlos Peraza won provincial championships in black belt forms, weapon forms and point sparring.

Pam Gunnlaugson won a provincial championship in brown belt weapon forms.

Katelyn Zuekewich won a provincial championship in brown belt point sparring and was a runner-up in forms.

Madison Zukewich won a provincial championship in yellow belt weapon sparring, and was a runner up in point sparring and forms.

Shanise George also competed, and sensei Harold Vilcu also attended the meet.
