Bernadette Wright has won the women’s event at the Frametech Classic at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.

Wright shot an 84 on Sunday to finish the two-round event with a 166 total, 10 strokes better than Paige Wheeler. Maxine Starkewski and Tenille Wilhelm were tied for third at 180.

Wright had an 82 on Saturday’s first round, which left her four strokes better than Wilhelm. Wright and Wheeler tied for the best round among the women on Sunday.

This marked the first time that Wright has played in the classic since it started offering a women’s division a few years ago.

“Normally I’m away this weekend, usually at family gatherings, but this year with COVID, here I am, I stayed in Estevan and decided to play in the Frametech.”

The golf course is in great shape, and it was a fun weekend.

“The staff is doing an amazing job, and the course is beautiful. I retired a few months ago, and I’ve been playing a lot more, and it’s beautiful.”

Wright has won numerous other golf competitions in Estevan over the years.

The men and senior men will play their third and final round on Monday. Austin Dobrescu shot a 69 on Sunday, a day after tying the course record with a 63 in the opening round, and now sits at 12-under-par 132 through two rounds. Jayden Dudas sits eight strokes back at 140.

Drew Jones (141) is third and Theoren West and Carson Harcourt (142) are tied for fourth.

Mike Ross continues to lead the senior men’s division. He shot an even par 72 in the second round and has a two-round total of 140, two strokes better than Rick Hallberg (142).

Paul Grimes is third at 152.

Approximately 120 golfers are entered in this year’s event.
