Oxbow Chiefs lead Saskota entering second half

The Oxbow Chiefs own the lead in the Saskota Baseball League, as the league has entered the second half of the season. The Chiefs sit atop the standings with a 9-1 record, one game ahead of the Estevan Tower Wolves (8-2).

The Chiefs sit atop the standings with a 9-1 record, one game ahead of the Estevan Tower Wolves (8-2). The Chiefs defeated the Wolves 7-6 on Tuesday night in a showdown of the top two teams in the league.

The Carlyle Cardinals aren’t far back, as they sit third with a 7-2-1 record. The Redvers As (6-4) are the only other team over the .500 mark.

The Kipling Royals (4-6) are fifth, followed by the Carnduff Astros (3-6-2), the Kenosee Cubs (2-5-1), the Arcola Threshers (2-7-2) and the Southeast Fireballs (1-9).

Two games were played in Estevan on June 22: the Tap House Wolves defeated the Royals 6-5 and then the Royals topped the Fireballs 8-7.

Four games were played on June 25. In addition to the showdown between the Wolves and the Chiefs, the A’s defeated the Fireballs 10-8, the Astros defeated the Threshers 11-3, and the Cardinals blanked the Royals 3-0.

Four more games were scheduled for June 27. (Results not available at press time).

Teams in the Saskota League will be in Carlyle for the annual Big Moose tournament during the Canada Day long weekend. They will return to league play on July 2 with four games: the Chiefs at the Fireballs, the Cubs at the Astros, the Royals at the A’s and the Cardinals at the Threshers.

Four more games are scheduled for July 4: the Wolves at the Astros, the Royals at the Chiefs, the Cubs at the Cardinals and the Threshers at the A’s.
