Rockets tie Red Devils for Big Six lead

The Rockets blanked the host Yellow Grass Wheat Kings 4-0 on Jan. 19 to move into the tie for top spot with a 14-1 record and 28 points; Carnduff has a 13-1-2 record and has played one more game than Redvers.

After a scoreless first period, the Rockets scored three times in the middle frame against Yellow Grass, with Drew Hoff scoring twice and Kenton Miller also scoring. Miller added his second of the game in the third.

Cody Matthewson was in goal for the Rockets.

Redvers also defeated the Kipling-Windthorst Oil Capitals 11-1 on Jan. 17.

The Red Devils lone game during the past week was a 3-2 victory over the Midale Mustangs on Jan. 17.

A tight four-way battle remains for third spot. The Bienfait Coalers have third with 18 points on the strength of a 9-6 record. The Wawota Flyers (8-5-1) are fourth at 17 points, followed by the Wheat Kings (8-5) in fifth with 16 points and the Carlyle Cougars (7-7-1) in sixth with 15 points. Yellow Grass has played the fewest games of the four teams.

The Flyers beat the Coalers 7-5 on Jan. 17 in a key game between the two teams. They also shelled the Arcola-Kisbey Combines 8-1 on Jan. 18.

The Mustangs (5-10) have virtually wrapped up seventh spot with 10 points. The Combines (2-14-1) are eighth with five points and the Oil Capitals (2-14) are ninth with four points.

Midale dominated Kipling –Windthorst 7-2 on Jan. 18.

Seven games are scheduled from Jan. 24-26. The Coalers will visit the Flyers in another clash between the two teams, while the Wheat Kings will play the Mustangs in a Highway 39 showdown.

Three more games are slated for Jan. 25: Carnduff at Wawota, Midale and Redvers and Carlyle at Arcola-Kisbey.

Games scheduled for Jan. 26 are Redvers at Bienfait and Yellow Grass at Carnduff.

The regular season is scheduled to end Feb. 1.
