ECS hosts golf districts at Woodlawn

Many of the top young golfers in southeast Saskatchewan were at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course on Tuesday for the Southeast District Athletics Association’s golf championship. Thirty-eight boys and five girls competed.

Many of the top young golfers in southeast Saskatchewan were at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course on Tuesday for the Southeast District Athletics Association’s golf championship.

Thirty-eight boys and five girls competed. Fourteen schools were represented. The top four finishers in the boys event and the top four finishers in the girls will represent the South East District, both individually and as a team, at the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association’s Golf Championships on Sept. 27 and 28 at Woodlawn.

Both the boys and the girls teams will have representation from several schools.

In the boys division, Jayden Dudas of the Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) took top spot with a 70. Theoren West of Wawota was second with a 76, and Chase Gedak of ECS and Darien Herlick of the Weyburn Comprehensive School finished tied for third at 77.

Drew Fenwick of ECS was sixth with an 84, and Ryan Chernoff of ECS was 10th with an 88.

On the girls side, Maddy Berry of Moosomin was the winner with a 99. Hallie Bourassa of Radvile was second (113), Jade Krainyk of Redvers was third (114) and Kaysha Turner of Carlyle was fourth (138).

Students from Arcola, Oxbow, Midale, Lampman, Stoughton and Fillmore also competed.

Since ECS is hosting provincials, Drew Fenwick and Ryan Chernoff will compete in the individual competition at the provincial tournament.

Wes Kreklewich of ECS will coach the boys team, while Tannis Schewan of Moosomin will coach the girls squad.
