For the first time since 2014, the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs have been defeated in the McLeod Series by the Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles.

The Elecs lost both games in Weyburn on Tuesday night to drop the best-of-four series 3-1. The Weyburn senior boys won 96-79 to open Tuesday’s games, and then the Weyburn senior girls beat Estevan 63-57.

The two teams had split the first two games last week in Estevan. Weyburn's senior girls beat Estevan 80-79 in overtime, while the Elecs senior boys won their game 100-98, giving Estevan a one-point advantage in total points, which serves as a tie-breaker in case each team wins two games.

Weyburn wound up outscoring Estevan 336-313 over the course of the four games.

Estevan had won the McLeod Series the last three years. The Elecs win in 2015 ended a drought of more than 30 years in the annual showdown.

Next week's edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
