For the second straight year, the Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) senior girls basketball team has advanced to the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association Hoopla provincial tournament.

The Elecs routed the Melville Cobras 88-42 on Saturday afternoon at the ECS gymnasium in the final of the 4A girls regional tournament. ECS limited the Cobras to four field goals in the first quarter and raced out to a 27-13 lead, and continued to roll, scoring 33 points in the second quarter to lead 60-24 at half-time.

ECS led 74-37 after three quarters, and outscored Melville 14-7 in the fourth quarter. Melville didn't get their first point of the final frame until a few minutes remained.

Melville reached the final by defeating Balgonie Greenall 60-44 on Friday night at ECS. Estevan received a bye to the final.

Hoopla starts March 23 in Prince Albert. ECS will play Moose Jaw Peacock in their opening game.

As for the Elecs senior boys team, they went 1-1 at 5A regionals in Warman this weekend. They opened with a 76-67 win over Prince Albert Carlton on Friday night, but lost 93-71 to North Battleford Comprehensive in a game to determine who would advance to Hoopla. The loss to North Battleford ended the Elecs' boys tournament.
