The Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) Elecs senior girls volleyball team was the class of their home tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Elecs defeated the Gordon F. Kells High School Cougars from Carlyle in two sets in the tournament’s best-of-three final Saturday evening.

“Carlyle put up a tough fight, but we ended up winning the game,” said Elecs head coach Nicole Rogalski.

ECS went 7-0 in the round robin of the eight-team tournament, defeating Carlyle, Carnduff, Midale, Lampman, Moose Jaw Central, Yorkton Sacred Heart and Saskatoon Christian.

They faced the Carnduff Education Complex Tigers in the semifinal, and won that match in three sets. It was one of only two sets they lost all weekend.

Rogalski said the Elecs played well  as a team, and were strong offensively.

“Some of the girls had some wicked hits, which got us some good kills, and they just really meshed well together,” said Rogalski.

Their serving and passing have also come a long ways in a short period of time, she said.

The next edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
