The final wasn’t as close, as ECS trounced the Balgonie Greenall Griffins 90-63.

The second half was much tighter defensively, as Estevan led 55-53 after three quarters, and then the two teams combined for just 17 points in the final stanza.

The Elecs game with the Toilers was also close from the start. Estevan held a 14-10 lead after the first quarter, and a 34-31 lead after two. The lead was down to two points after three quarters, and the Toilers outscored the Elecs by two in the fourth to force extra time.

The ECS Elecs senior girls basketball team won the B event of a tournament at Moose Jaw Peacock on the weekend.

Estevan opened the tournament with a 65-47 loss to Middle Lake, leaving them in the tournament’s B event. Then they rattled off three straight convincing victories, defeating Southey 68-36, Yorkton Regional 53-23 and Meadow Lake 69-31 in the B final.

Sarah Dacuycuy was the top scorer against Middle Lake with 13 points and five rebounds.

Jennica Memory led the way against Southey with 13 points and six rebounds, Beth Montebon had a team-high 14 points to go with five rebounds against Yorkton, and Charlotte Andrist was the top scorer versus Meadow Lake with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Coach Jessie Smoliak noted the team is going through a rebuilding year, as they have only six returnees from last year’s team that reached the provincial final, and they don’t have any Grade 12s. There are four Grade 11s, six Grade 10s and two Grade 9s.

Their next tournament is in Regina from Jan. 31-Feb. 2.
