Sunday hockey recap: Bears lose to Notre Dame, U15 AA and U13 AA Bruins win

The Estevan Eclipse Downhole Solutions U18 AAA Bears lost 9-3 to the Notre Dame Hounds in the second half of a weekend home and home Sunday at Affinity Place. The two teams were scoreless until Notre Dame scored with 5:32 to play in the first period.

The Estevan Eclipse Downhole Solutions U18 AAA Bears lost 9-3 to the Notre Dame Hounds in the second half of a weekend home and home Sunday at Affinity Place.

The two teams were scoreless until Notre Dame scored with 5:32 to play in the first period.

The Hounds turned it up in the second, scoring six times in an 11:15 span to lead 7-0 through two periods. Two goals were short-handed markers 26 seconds apart.

Notre Dame scored twice more in the third before Estevan found the scoreboard. Kieran Stewart and Turner McMillen tallied 67 seconds apart, and then Blaze Gutzke socred on a power play with one second remaining.

Jackson Miller played the first two periods for Estevan, and stopped 30 of 37 shots. Kelton Pyne stopped 13 of 15 shots in the third.

The Bears will host the Regina Pat Canadians Saturday at 4 p.m. at Affinity Place.

The Estevan TS&M U15 AA Bruins picked up their first win of the season with a 6-1 victory over the Regina Monarchs Sunday afternoon at Affinity Place.

Jackson Hansen, Kobe Wotta, Ryker Mathison, Mathias Fornwald, Kade Phillips and Carter Onrait scored for Estevan. Onrait also had two assists.

Ty Fehrenbach stopped 40 shots for Estevan.

The next action is a home and home with the Melville Millionaires. They’ll meet Nov. 28 in Melville and the following day in Estevan.

The Estevan Meter U13 AA Bruins completed a weekend sweep of the Melville Millionaires with an 8-0 win in Melville on Sunday.

Reese Copeland and Tristan Brownridge scored in the first period for Estevan, and Carson Deichert tallied in the second period. The Bruins took over in the third with five markers.

Copeland scored twice to complete the hat track, and Deichert picked up his second of the game. Gunner Moore and Deegan LeMoine also scored.

Jaxon Kuchinka was in goal for the shutout victory.

In the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League, the South East Aaron Well Servicing U18 AA Gold Wings defeated the Regina Rebels 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in Midale, completing a weekend sweep.

Khloe Bedore scored twice for the Goldwings, including the game-winner 34 seconds into the second period that broke a 1-1 tie.

Jenna Currie had the Goldwings other goal.

Kara Zelyck was in goal for the Goldwings.

The next action for the Goldwings is a home and home with the Notre Dame Hounds, who are also still undefeated. The two teams will meet Nov. 27 in Wilcox and Nov. 29 in Midale.

The Southeast Bert Baxter U15 AA Goldwings were shut out in both ends of their home and home with the Regina Rebels.

The Goldwings lost 7-0 in Regina Saturday and 3-0 in Weyburn Sunday.

Amy Swayze was in goal Saturday and J’Anne Colbow was the goaltender Sunday.

Their next games will be a home and home with the Prairie Storm, with games Friday in Weyburn and Saturday in Balgonie.

The Estevan Power Dodge Bearcats teams wrapped up their weekend showdown with the Bearcats 1 defeating Bearcats 2 12-1 Sunday.

Kamryn Kish had five goals and two assists, and Alexis Williamson scored four times. Katie Sauder scored twice and Ella Fornwald had the other goal.

Kiera Barker was in goal for Bearcats 1.

Emma Holzer had the lone goal for the Bearcats 2 team, and Julia Durr their goalie.

The next action for Bearcats 1 will be Nov. 28, when they host the Weyburn Gold Wings at 2 p.m. in Bienfait. They’ll visit Weyburn the following day.

The Bearcats 2 will host the Madville Huskies Nov. 28 at 3:30 p.m. at the Power Dodge Ice Centre, and then visit the Huskies the following day in Radville.
