TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club opened memorial wall

A long conceived project finally came true. The TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club held a memorial wall dedication ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

The wall that celebrates long-term employees and club members finally became a reality after the Wrubleski family’s donation. Club general manager and head pro Amanda Minchin said that the project was in the plans for a long time.

“We had a plan in our capital budget that we were going to create a memorial wall. We wanted to beautify our parking lot, general area there with the trees. And then it really came to fruition. We got this big donation from the Wrubelski family and we decided to go full force for it,” said Minchin.

The wall, made of brick, is now the first thing visitors and club members see when coming to the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course. The club wanted to provide a permanent and consistent structure as an option for memorial tributes.

The memorial wall is highly visible and will include an engraved plaque with a dedication to all names on the wall.

The first three bricks that were placed into the wall during the dedication ceremony carried the names of Richie Weiler, who was a long-time club employee, Susan Sands and Art Wrubleski, both of whom were long-time club members. Their family members, friends and colleges came together to open the memorial wall.

Minchin said she expects more names to appear on the bricks as soon as next summer.

“We have a little bit more work to do on the back of the bricks. But we’ve got lights there now. We are going to put it out to the general public, our membership and the golfers,” said Minchin.

She hopes the lights will be wired within the next couple of weeks, so the area will be lit up every night.

Engraving of memorial bricks will be handled by TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club. Bricks shall only include names of deceased individuals. The club won’t allow any company or organization names to be engraved on the wall. Placement of the bricks will be left to the discretion of the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club.

The cost of one engraved brick is $1,000, which will go to the club’s beautification fund. The money will be used towards engraving, placement and general upkeep for the life of the wall and bricks.

Minchin said that the club hopes it will be a lifetime project, and there is no maximum capacity of the wall.

“If we have to one day make it bigger, we will,” said Minchin.

It takes a couple of weeks to finalize a brick.
