It was an eventful night at Affinity Place on Friday, but the biggest highlight came late in the second period when Estevan Bruins captain Jayden Davis scored a goal of the year candidate in the Bruins 6-4 victory over the Weyburn Red Wings.
Davis undressed a Weyburn Red Wings defender late in the second period, and then Davis put the puck between his legs before beating Red Wings goaltender Noah Decottignies.
"I just reacted. I saw him turn because I think he thought I was going to go wide, and then I pulled it to the middle, and I had the goalie go for a poke check, so I just pulled it back and went between the legs."
The goal has received national attention, with an appearance on TSN's BarDown and other outlets.
Davis said he has never scored a goal like that at the junior level, except in practice. He's received some ribbing from his teammates for his hands, but he showed his abilities on that goal.
Estevan went on to win the game 6-4.
The Bruins had a 3-0 lead after the first perio. Weyburn scored twice in the second to pull the Wings to within one, and then Davis had his goal of the year candidate.
The two teams each scored twice in the third.
Austin King-Cunningham scored both of Estevan's goals in the third period, including the game-winner midway through the frame. Kade McMillen, Cody Davis and Dain Sardelli also scored for Estevan. Griffin Asham-Moroz had four assists.
Keenan Rancier made 19 saves in the victory.
Davis said it was nice to beat Weyburn after losing three times to them earlier this year.
"It was really great to get that lead. It feels awesome to get the lead against any team, especially Weyburn."
Estevan will face the Melville Millionaires Saturday night at Affinity Place.
