The Rae Ann Williamson rink has stayed alive at the Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts women’s curling provincials in Melville.

Williamson defeated Jana Tisdale’s rink 9-3 Sunday morning in a must-win, C event game. She fell behind 2-0 after the first end, but took three in the second, and stole one in each of the fourth and fifth ends to lead 5-2 at the fifth-end break.

Tisdale scored one in the sixth, but Williamson took two in the seventh and stole two more in the eighth end to put the game away.

Williamson opened with a 9-3 win over Ashley Howard on Friday, but then lost 10-7 to Penny Barker in an extra end. Then she lost 9-2 to Mandy Selzer in the B event on Saturday.

Williamson’s rink will be back on the ice Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. against an opponent to be determined. The winner of that game keeps playing in the tournament.

Other members of the Williamson rink are third Alexandra Meyer, second Chantel Martin and lead Amanda Kuzyk. Their coach is Darcey Huyghebaert. They are competing out of Regina but Williamson and Meyer are from the southeast.

Another team with strong southeast connections, the Shalon Fleming rink, dropped three straight games after winning their opening gam, and they were eliminated.

They opened with a 9-8 win over Lorraine Schneider, but then lost three straight: 8-2 to reigning provincial champion Robyn Silvernagle, 10-5 to the Howard rink, and 12-1 to former national champion Amber Holland.

Former Estevan resident Cindy Ricci is on the Holland rink.

Other members of the Fleming rink are third Candace Newkirk, second Sherrilee Orsted and lead Jasmine Kerr. Their coach is Bob Doerr.
